The best mattress toppers of 2026

CertiPUR-US is the certification you will see most often on memory foam. It is run by a nonprofit, the Alliance for Flexible Polyurethane Foam, and it publishes a directory of participating companies at certipur.us. Type a brand name and you get an entry with three fields worth reading: a Valid through year, a Company Type, and a Product Category list. That last field is the one people skip, and it is the one that decides whether the certification has anything to do with the item in your cart.

Saatva is the worked example on this page. It appears in the directory, valid through 2026, but its Product Category list runs Adjustable Mattresses, Adult Mattresses, Pet Beds, Pillows, Upholstered Furniture and Youth Mattresses. Mattress toppers are not on it. Lucid, ViscoSoft and Tempur-Pedic all carry Mattress Pads, Toppers and Protectors in theirs. The directory also states its own limit in plain language: company not listed, and they cannot vouch for its use of certified foam.

CertiPUR-US covers flexible polyurethane foam, which is why natural latex products are not in it and why their absence proves nothing. Latex has its own bodies, and the ones named on this page are GOLS, Fair for Life, Greenguard Gold, Oeko-Tex Standard 100, eco-INSTITUT and the Forest Stewardship Council. We checked one of them, eco-INSTITUT, and did not get far: its database is paginated and we read a single page, which is not a search. So treat a named body as a lead rather than as a finished check, and treat a certificate number as a much better lead, because it points at one certificate instead of at a company.

Four of the five product pages here hide a real fact in their gallery images, and the exception is the one we ranked first: the Sleep On Latex gallery is three photographs of the foam and nothing else. Tempur-Pedic prints 10-YEAR LIMITED WARRANTY on a marketing panel while the specification field labeled warranty spends 900 characters defining an authorized retailer and never gives the term. ViscoSoft prints the CertiPUR-US and Oeko-Tex seals in artwork and mentions neither across nine bullets and a 23 row table. Lucid prints a decompression window of 24 to 72 hours in a panel while bullet 6 says 24 to 48. Saatva puts a Guardin panel in its gallery, claiming the cover inhibits bacteria, mold and mildew, and that claim appears in none of its five bullets and none of its specification rows.

None of that is searchable. Text in a picture does not appear when you use your browser find function, it is not in the specification table, and it will not turn up in a comparison tool. Open the gallery, click through every frame, and read the small print in the corners before you decide a listing has told you everything.

Three of the five here are memory foam and two are latex, and the makers describe the difference in their own words. Sleep On Latex writes that latex foam reacts instantly, that you never get the sinking feel as the night goes on, and that its foam is made in moulds by an enhanced Dunlop process, which it says gives foam that is springy but not bouncy the way latex made by the Talalay process is. Saatva calls its latex buoyant and pressure free. Lucid describes its memory foam as plush, light and airy with cooling gel blended in at the molecular level.

Those are the manufacturers talking about their own products, and they are useful for telling you what a thing is meant to feel like, not for settling which is better. What you can pin down before buying is thickness and weight. Four of these are 3 inches and the Saatva is 1.5. The Pure Green queen weighs 33.9 pounds and the Lucid queen weighs 15, which matters more than it sounds when you are trying to get one onto a bed alone.
